| The Social Development Forum is intended to bring together
social scientists from multidisciplinary backgrounds, who will promote
the research and development inter-face through policy relevant
studies and information dissemination. The conditions of membership;
the activities of the Forum; meetings; themes to be addressed and
information dissemination are addressed below.
THE CORE OBJECTIVE of the SoDEF is broadly to discuss
social development aspects of the Ghanaian economy, with a view
to making the economic policy process more relevant to social development.
MEMBERSHIP is open to social scientists engaged
in social development research and practice relating to Ghana. This
includes both local and foreign researchers and development practitioners.
FORUM ACTIVITIES are devoted to electronic-based
seminars and publications.
FORMAT FOR SEMINARS. The e-seminars will be held
once a month in real time. The appointed time is the last Thursday
of the month at 2.45 - 4.45 p.m.
There will be an e-announcement about up-coming meetings every second
Thursday of the month, to be followed by a reminder every third
Thursday of the month. Documents for the meetings will be distributed
along with the announcement. Members will be linked to useful e-seminars
and documents elsewhere in the EGN.
INFORMATION DISSEMINATION will be mainly through
policy briefs.
SUGGESTED THEMES E-BASED SEMINARS include;
a. Civic development (e.g. national policy for
the development of zoo, etc.)
b. Transportation issue (e.g. man-hour used in
traffic and its effect on development)
c. Housing issues
d. Labour employment issues
e. Culture, tradition and the economy
f. Environmental issues
g. Family issues
h. Education
i. Social protection
j. Livelihood
k. Public health
l. Social development forum’s response to
current issues as they unfold and making contributions
