ECONOMY OF GHANA NETWORK
----------.----Supporting Policy with Research -An Activity of ACBF

Subject Discusions > Public Sector Economics

Introduction
The gap between theory and practice is the key problem to be addressed by members of the network. It is common knowledge that many students complete courses in economics without a fair understanding of the rudiments of the economy of Ghana.

Despite the introduction to the economy of Ghana many graduates of economics are unable to comprehend the functioning of the public sector. Public sector economic management appears to have been shrouded in secrecy despite the publication and sale of the annual Budget and Economic Policy Statement of the Government. It may not be far fetch to suggest that the ignorance of the economics of the public sector is the result of the non-existent readable literature on the subject.

Objective
The aim of the network is therefore to bridge the gap between practice and theory by getting as many people as possible to who are interested to discuss the economy from the point of view of researchers and public sector economic managers (practitioners). Ultimately the discussions will result in publications on the public sector economic management in Ghana, which may be made more widely available to the general reader and students of economics.

Target Group
To make the dream of bridging the gap between theory and practice a reality, whilst making literature on public economic management more widely available to the general reader, Researchers and Economists, Budget and Planning Officers and Public Sector Managers in the Ministry of Finance, Ghana Statistical Service, Revenue Collection Agencies, Ministries, Departments and Agencies and the Controller and Accountant General's Department (CAGD) are invited to form the nucleus of the network.
