About Us

Introduction
The Economy of Ghana Network (EGN) is a civil society organization embracing all persons with adequate training and interest in discussing issues relevant to the proper management of the economy of Ghana and to the country's socio-economic development. The network provides a platform for disseminating research findings and discussing their policy relevance. It seeks to make easily accessible to a wider audience the findings of all the research being carried out on the socio-economic development Ghana from the different parts of the globe. The network also seeks to engage all interested persons in policy debates and will provide additional material to public agencies to assist in enriching national policy making. It seeks to protect its independence from known political interest groups and therefore dies not align itself with such groups even as it discusses issues of political interest.

Mode of Operation
The Economy of Ghana Network is generally E-based. It uses this interactive website as the main platform for discussion among members. Members receive regular email updates on relevant research and socio-economic development policy matters. There are also electronically organized monthly seminars that will discuss topical and relevant issues. The Network will organize an annual conference on the Economy of Ghana and disseminate the proceedings widely. It is proposed to establish an academic journal to serve as the main outlet for research on socio-economic development in the country, while producing easily readable research policy briefs.

EGN activities are organized under the following subjects that lead to smaller groupings, depending on interest and areas of expertise:

1. Macroeconomics

2. Development Politics/Civil Society

3. Statistics and Data Management

4. Development Economics

5. Local Government and Public Sector Management

6. Agricultural Economy

7. Social Development

8. Public Health and Population

9. Public Sector Economics

10. Private Sector and Capital Markets Development

The Economy of Ghana Network is open to persons who have a degree in a relevant academic discipline and are professionally engaged in the Ghanaian development process as researchers, university lecturers, policy makers, business persons, managers, or as development professionals. Indeed, all persons working for the development of Ghana in any of the mentioned professional categories are eligible. It is expected, however, that persons who express interest in the Network will be committed to critical analysis of the Ghanaian economic situation as the basis for any advocacy actions.
